Stewart Brand on the Trips festival...thanks Stewart

The idea crystalized when Mike Hagen leaned in my door in North Beach San Francisco and blurted out schemes about forthcoming Acid Tests, including why not a big one at Longshoreman's Hall. I liked the idea but knew the Pranksters would never get around to it, so I seized the notion and started calling other Bay Area artists like Ramon Sender and Ben Jaccopetti. I organized it, with Ramon's good help. Later on Bill Graham begged in and was helpful. The Pranksters and Grateful Dead had star billing Saturday night and eventually dominated the event magnifcently. A week or so before the event, the Furthur bus and Kesey helped draw media attention very effectively. (That's also when he and Mountain Girl got busted on my rooftop for marijuana---it added to the publicity but led eventually to grim problems for Kesey.)

Keep up the good archiving work!

Here's a recent picture courtesy of the man himself

And another of him dancing like Fred Astaire in a top hat at the Trips Festival (he tells me that he still has the hat)
