Anonymous Artists of America info.
Welcome to the Music Page.Of course, the band most associated with Kesey and the Pranksters is The Grateful Dead. The connection goes way back: Garcia lived about four blocks from Perry Lane in a communal household called the Chateau. Robert Hunter, future Dead lyricist, volunteered at the local Menlo Park V.A. Hospital where the CIA were funding some experiments in mind-altering drugs (on Kesey). At the first Acid Test at Babbs' place in Santa Cruz, the Dead -- or the Warlocks as they were still called -- played in the living room. At the second Acid Test in San Jose, the Grateful Dead played their first ever show using that new name. The Dead became the house band for the Acid Tests, and over the next year or so ended up playing a total of 9 more Tests up and down the West coast with Kesey and the Pranksters. The Dead weren't the only band to play at the Acid Tests, but they were certainly the one with the closest links to the Pranksters. The Prankster History Project would just luurve to hear from Deadheads with a Prankster story to tell, and maybe there are others out there that played at Prankster events that would like to re-enter the spotlight just one more time.
