Welcome to the Book and Movie Page.

From Cuckoo's Nest to the Kool-Aid Acid Test and beyond, there has always been a literary aspect to the exploits of Kesey and the Pranksters. Similarly, from the early days the Pranksters have always emphasised a strong visual and technological element to their work.

It's well documented that sometime after the publication of Sometimes a Great Notion, Kesey took a step back from the world of print to focus on film and the interactive media that characterized the Acid Tests. Because of this decision, a great deal of video and audio footage exists of early Prankster activities, but until now technical problems have hindered its release to the public. Recently, these problems have been overcome and Kesey and the Pranksters are busy editing and releasing this footage on a series of videotapes.

This page is intended to document impressions, reviews and information about the considerable amount of work that has either been released by the Pranksters themselves or written about them by others. Click here to add your tuppennyworth, or on a link to the left to read the confessions of others.

Just received a great message from, errmm, Doctor Bookish, telling of his personal appreciation of Kesey's literary talent -- "to my mind, through the early work, Kesey earned the right to walk with the giants."

Just added a couple of photos from Kesey's personal archives from, I think, the Perry Lane days. One shows him writing at his desk, the other of him reading a manuscript, maybe an early draft of Sometimes a Great Notion. These photos are both courtesy of Kesey himself.
